What can I expect if I come to worship?
If you are returning to church or coming for the first time, all the "parts" of worship may seem overwhelming at first.
If you are feeling lost, just keep in mind that God’s love is not dependent on perfection and that it does take some
time to get acquainted with the practices of any worshipping community.
These basics of our worship service might be helpful:
*We praise God through music, words and silence.
*Children’s packets/materials are available.
There is a time for children to come forward for sharing and learning with the Pastor
(following this time there is nursery care available for children ages birth-3, and Children’s Church for children ages 4-7 is
available. Pagers for parents of nursery-aged children will be available for use during worship services.).
*Worship always includes a reading of Scripture and a reflection or sermon.
*Prayer is important so everyone has the opportunity to share names or situations of joy and concern during prayer time.
*Communion is the highlight of worship. Communion is the practice of remembering Jesus’ last supper with his
disciples and remembering Jesus’ presence with us. Communion is open which means that anyone who believes that Jesus
is the Christ, is invited to take a piece of bread and drink the cup (placing back in the tray when finished) as they
are passed down your aisle.
*An offering is taken up each Sunday morning and used for ministries of the church and for operational expenses.
*After a prayer of blessing is offered for the gifts received, you will be invited (if comfortable) to hold the
hands of your neighbors as we pray the Lord’s Prayer together:
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.
If you cannot remember the words of this prayer, it is okay. The important thing is that we share a sense of
connectedness as we come in a spirit of prayer before God.
*Following the Lord’s Prayer, we extend an invitation to join the community of faith by transfer of membership
or by confession of faith (if a person has never confessed Jesus as Christ).
The question we ask of all persons joining the church is: "Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the Living God and do you accept him as your Lord and Savior." Because the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) grows out of the fervent belief that there should not be "tests of fellowship," this is the only
(albeit very important) question or requirement for church membership. If you are interested in joining the church and
have any questions, please email Pastor Rochelle Richards or call her at the church
office (253) 863-7858.
